Watchmen.

Possibly a perfect movie.

Must watch 4 more times to confirm/deny.

Not perfect. Excellent. Have seen twice and opinion much approved on second viewing. Qualification: perfect movie must have perfect cast. young Ms. Jupiter was played by a soggy piece of meat in spandex. hope this finds you well. *hurm*

The end.

This movie was quite good, but hardly perfect. My roommate has seen it 3 or 4 times and he thinks it is one of the best. I have only seen it once, but there is definitely depth uncharacteristic of American cinema, yet it retains the gratuitous violence and sex required for a movie to be popular in this country. I predict cult classic.

I think it has to be a flop before it can be considered a cult classic, Phil. It's hardly going to flop.

I remain skeptical. Sin City sucked, 300 sucked. I doubt he's going to do anything truly worthwhile.

Unfair to compare sin city to 300. sin city sucked because frank miller is more sexist than he is human and the movie reflected that. 300 may not have been a great movie (i loved it) but it was a masterful re-creation of a graphic novella that worked more as fan service than real drama. watchmen perpetuated snyder's trend of religiously faithful adaptations with a bit too much slow-mo. it would be unfair, i think, to judge this movie to harshly from a mainstream perspective. though sensational in its advertising, i'd have to say that this movie is for nerds and especially nerds who lap up like manna from heaven the festering rage foaming out of the corner of the beard shadowed pit that is his Alan Moore's mouth...in short.

I thought "300" was gayer than the volleyball scene in "Top Gun," but hey, that's just me. I have not seen "Watchmen," but I hear good things about it. I hope it's not to noir and overdone.

So, how does it measure up on the Boborama Cinema Checklist (BCC). You need one check on each of these items:

Handguns?
Car chase?
Boob count?
Gratuitous Dance Scene?
Makes You Feel Proud to be 'Merican?
Deeply Philosophical Insight That Changes Your Life?

How does it measure up?

So, far, only "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Pulp Fiction" have really measured up, although "True Lies" almost made the checklist with Jamie Lee's dance scene.

My thoughts on Watchmen:
Over violent.
Over sexed.
Over sytlized.
Over masculine.
Over slow-motioned.
Over blue-donged.
Silly dialogue.

The best parts were Rorschach and Night Owl, which are the best parts of the graphic novel, really. My opinion hardly compares to anyone else, but I went in expecting to be let down, and I was even more let down than I thought I would be. I guess I just expected more, but considering Moore didn't have anything to do with it, and the problems with the movie were almost all the same problems with the graphic novel, I guess... expected?

Ok. I now know how to get your attention! golly! So this is why Anne Coulter is successful (btw, the South Park episode with Anne Coulter should be taught in all Poli Sci classes from here on)

Dan: She's totally skinnier than me. WTF on the saggy comment.

Steffie: This is going to be one of those Frankenstein things isn't it?

Phil: Josh is right. It does have to bomb the box office, and relatively it has, but because the industry is so down it got to be #1 for a couple weeks. Though, yes, it will endure as a geek fest, comicon favorite for eternity, if that's what you mean.

Josh: I've explained this to you more than I think you wanted to tolerate already... You know my thoughts.

Dad: No car chase, but a weird spaceship kinda thing... Heinlein would approve.

No boobs, but many a garter belt/mini skirt combo.

Hand guns, pretty ones, very nice shots and maneuvers.

Philosophy, yes. It may be my new religious text.

Merican... well, it alters history so we win the Vietnam war and Tricky Dick gets elected three times... if that don't scream PROUD I don't know what does...

Stylization, to a degree demanded by the subject matter but not nearly as much as Sin City or Max Payne.

And really people, its rated R, you're adults, I've heard too many squeamish comments on Dr. Manhattan's dong. Get over it.

Wait, there's a blue dong in it? That changes everything!

So, is the sequel going to be "Island of the Blue Dong"? Didn't the book win a Newberry?
